The Oricoco cocopeat and coir factory is located in the Inhambane Province of Mozambique, in the heart of a vast coconut plantation that dates back to the first Portuguese sailors visiting this magnificent land in the 16th Century.
The husks which Oricoco works are large and round, and each husk is carefully matured for over 6 months to give our clients perfect cocopeat and fibre. The factory is situated away from the sea, and uses an extensive fresh water washing and retting process to underscore its quality product with very low EC levels.
Oricoco is sensitive to the border requirements of its worldwide clients and has standardized its sterilization process so that each product is void of any harmful phytos, bacteria, weeds or seeds. Oricoco believes that each client should be delivered the same product month on month and that there is never a deviation from the product base- quality control is a foundation of our business. However Oricoco is also a dynamic unit which can produce products to spec, offering buffering and bespoke facilities to those that require it.

The Mozambique Prime Minister, Mr Aires Ali and Oricoco's CEO, Gerhard van Niekerk at the Oricoco factory in 2010.
Oricoco’s existing logistics infrastructure enables the producers to deliver the product cost-effectively, quickly and efficiently to clients by road and by sea- with the port of Maputo close by, the shipping turnaround times are better than our Asian counterparts.
The production of Oricoco cocopeat and coir fibre products is playing an integral part to the existing local farmers. Via direct and indirect employment many local people are enjoying the benefits of economic empowerment and upliftment which will ensure the long-term sustainability of the industry. Oricoco is proud to be the driver of this industry.
Mr. Gerhard van Niekerk is the founder and CEO, and when you can’t find him at the factory, he is on the road making sure that Oricoco’s clients are continuing to receive the best product available. Email Gerhard at gerhard@oricoco.com, or call him on +258 84 244 1298
